Interior Painting FAQs
Common questions about interior painting, prep, paint types, drying time, and our process. Can't find your answer? Call us at (619) 708-9736.
How long does interior painting prep take?
Prep time depends on the scope of your project. For a single room, we typically spend 2–4 hours on prep: moving furniture, laying drop cloths, masking trim, and repairing any drywall imperfections. For a whole-house project, prep can take a full day or more. We never rush this step—proper preparation is what ensures clean edges and a professional finish.
What types of paint do you use for interior walls?
We use high-quality interior latex (water-based) and acrylic paints from trusted brands. Latex paint is durable, low-odor, and easy to clean up. For trim and doors, we often recommend semi-gloss or satin finishes for better durability and washability. During your free estimate, we'll discuss paint options and finishes that best suit your home's needs and your budget.
How long does interior paint take to dry?
Most latex interior paint is touch-dry in 1–2 hours and fully cured in 24 hours. However, drying time depends on humidity, temperature, and ventilation. We'll advise you on how long to wait before moving furniture back or using the room. In San Diego's mild climate, drying is usually faster than in humid regions.
Do you offer color consultation?
Yes. Color selection is part of our free on-site estimate. We'll discuss your vision, show you paint samples in your actual lighting, and help you choose colors that work with your furniture, flooring, and overall décor. We've painted hundreds of rooms in Ocean Beach, Point Loma, and greater San Diego—we know what colors work well in different spaces and lighting conditions.
Can you paint trim and doors separately from walls?
Absolutely. Many homeowners choose to paint trim and doors in a contrasting color—crisp white trim against colored walls is a classic look. We can paint trim, doors, and baseboards in a different finish (often semi-gloss for durability) while keeping walls in a flat or eggshell finish. We'll mask carefully to keep edges sharp and clean.
How do you protect my furniture and floors?
We take protection seriously. We move furniture to the center of rooms, lay down heavy-duty drop cloths, and mask baseboards, trim, and fixtures. We use plastic sheeting where needed and tape off areas carefully. Our goal is to leave your home spotless—no paint drips, no dust, no mess. We clean up thoroughly at the end of each day and do a final deep clean when the project is complete.
Do you repair drywall damage before painting?
Yes. Small holes, dents, and imperfections are part of our prep work. We patch drywall, sand smooth, and prime before painting. For larger damage, we'll discuss repair options and costs during your estimate. A smooth, well-prepped wall is the foundation of a professional paint job.
How many coats of paint do you apply?
Most interior painting projects require two coats of paint for even coverage and rich color. If you're painting over a dark color with a light one, or if the existing paint is in poor condition, we may recommend primer plus two coats. We'll assess your walls during the estimate and recommend the best approach for a lasting, professional finish.
Can you paint one room at a time?
We're happy to paint one room, multiple rooms, or your entire home—whatever fits your budget and timeline. Many homeowners start with a master bedroom or living room and add more rooms later. We'll work with your schedule and give you a clear estimate for any scope of work.
